After our fun at Kolmården we were off to Astrid Lindgren’s World. The first stop was Pippi’s house and her father’s pirate ship. Every hour or so actors suddenly appear and act out part of Astrid Lindgren’s stories. Mattias really enjoyed the different shows – particularly Carlsson on the roof and Pippi. I have to admit that I was a bit lost amongst all of the Swedish children’s characters… but Mattias seemed to enjoy himself.
After a full day of Pippi we set off for our final destination Leos Lekland in Borås.
One day at Kolmården just wasn’t enough. We still had a safari to go on and Mattias was determined to pet one of the baby pigs – who were equally as determined to be left alone.
We started off our day by taking the gondola around the park. Mattias had been asking about it since the roller coaster was such a disappointment. How is it that kids seek out that which costs extra?? Below is a video of Mattias talking on the gondola.
Interview on the gondola.
And lastly a video of Mattias trying to catch a piglet.
Off to Astrid Lindgren’s World tomorrow.
With our new bikes, getting to the beach was no sweat. The summer in Stockholm has been amazingly (and unusually) warm. Most can’t complain about the weather – I don’t seem to have a problem… where is air conditioning when you need it??
Finally it is my turn for some vacation and for the kick off we visited Parken Zoo in Eskilstuna with Farmor and Hans. Mattias had a great time and despite the promise of thunder storms we only had to endure a bit of rain. I’m thankful the weather report kept more people from visiting. It felt like we had the park to ourselves.
The highlights of the trip were a boat trip with Hans and a train ride with Mom (at least according to Mattias anyway).
After we had our fill of animals we left Fredrik at the park so that he could enjoy a Kent concert later that night with friends Jocke and Mikaela.
Mattias and Fredrik started their vacation on July 12 (I still had a week of work to go). Unfortunately Mattias was still sick for the first couple of days but by mid-week he had regained his strength just in time for a boat trip with his cousins Max and Ella.
He got to play in their helicopter, jump on the trampoline, swim at the beach and go for a boat ride… finally vacation!
On the way out to Ingarö Mattias was really car sick (on a hot bus) and we didn’t think too much of it until the next day… sick again… yuck! As you can see, he wasn’t his usual energetic self…
On July 10th we went out to visit Leif, Inger and Lann at Ingarö. Mattias had a great time swimming and playing on the beach. He even got a chance to pick strawberries from the garden. Mmmm
We celebrated the 4th at a coworker’s house (she’s a fellow American). Mattias spent several hours pretending to be a fireman – spraying the hose at the bushes.

Fireman Mattias
Then on Sunday we went out to Rönninge for some bbq – my dad’s recipe. Delicious!

mmm ribs
Mattias had fun playing in the water and with his dad.

On June 27th I took Mattias to lill-jans forest and we had a blast getting dirty, “fishing” with sticks and climbing trees. What a monkey.

Mattias would love camping… maybe next year.
